Tubbs Hall welcomes Rainbow Guides and wants helpers for new Youth club
Tubbs Hall Chairman, Jackie, says the hall has gone from strength to strength welcoming children at the hall for a wide range of a activities from judo to dance, and now Rainbows! Carole has taken the plunge as the new leader and the Tubbs hall is pleased to support new ventures in the community. Picture of the Rainbows and/or advert for youth club ‘Playground should be safer’ say Kiln Lane residents. Jackie has asked the Parish Council to do their bit and they have cleaned the equipment but the Housing association haven’t done their part. I will keep pressing for regular clean ups- it just isn’t good enough. Simon comment Photo of playground
Local Area Design Statement
The Local Area Design Statement gives weight to arguments against development at 155, Springvale Road. A City Council proposal to sell land to the developer to make up a shortfall of funds has fallen foul of planning rules. Tory councillors tried to use the sale of Council House land within the proposal to make up the shortfall in the Housing Account, but under the Liberal Democrats, a Design statement was written for Headbourne Worthy to ensure the quality of developments there as parcels of land became available. It stresses the importance of tree cover on the hill, and open space within developments, restricting buildings to below three storeys. So, the area was protected – our thanks to Robert Johnston, but especially Stevie Simkin and Ian Gordon who opposed the application at Planning committee.

Lunways Inn site
Representatives from the Gospel Hall Trust are holding a meeting at Itchen Abbas Village Hall at 7.30pm on Friday 13th February to show possible designs so you say which you prefer. All welcome.
Stoke Charity Bridge
Stoke Charity Road/Rail Bridge was judged a risk after two accidents, but the pending decision about altering it to accommodate larger freight had left residents with an unsightly mess. Jackie sought improvements and after pressing for nearly two years, the safety work has been done at last, including improvements to the road surface and drainage by the farm. The bridge works are temporary until the decision to raise the rail bridge has been made.
The Back Road
The Back Road will be resurfaced this year, after being delayed due to the tipping site.. Fellow Councillor Charlotte Bailey and Jackie walked the road with HCC officer in Jan 2009 to identify formal passing places, serious breakdowns in the surface, and places where the ‘old road ‘ width needs to be restored. All residents want to see this road restored back to pre- Drove tipping size ‘says Jackie, ‘so we have asked HCC to achieve this in the extensive works there this Summer It will necessitate road closures but hopefully the finished result will be worth it.’
Traffic Camera
Are you aware of the camera that is in Kings Worthy?
What do you think of having a camera in the village?
Why is it here anyway?
The Transport Strategy Team at HCC say it is to plan and predict journeys based on the records built up from traffic cameras like these. Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras store data for years on the cars going past. These latest additions in Kings Worthy, at Andover Road junction off Worthy Lane, and near the Harestock Road junction bring the total in Winchester to 17.
Jackie says, “I think this technology is way over the top for this location. Congestion isn't a major problem here for most of the day and the high cost of installation would have been better spent adding a new footway in Bedfield Lane for example. They say that the information could be passed to the Police for use if criminals were involved, but the criteria for doing this isn't clear.
If the Council wants to glean information about car journeys, perhaps it could have placed a mobile unit here for a while, not an ugly permanent one.
HCC recognise that I am not happy with this intrusion of privacy but say there is nothing they want to change. So, we're stuck with £13K of camera unless residents agree with me.
What do you think?
Should there be a traffic camera in Kings Worthy?
